Find a Doctor
Certification by a specialty board indicates that a physician has served a residency and successfully completed the board's examination. The number of required years in residency varies from one specialty to another. The examination, usually consisting of an oral test and a written test, indicates that the physician meets the standards established by the specialty board. The physician then is termed to be "board certified."
