About 20% of all adults experience chronic pain at some point in their lives. The impact on them as well as family members can be devastating. Because of the complex nature of chronic pain (lasting for six or more months) and the different ways it can be treated, it is easy to become overwhelmed. MMH's Pain Management Services unit has developed adjunct services to assist in the management of pain.
Assessment
An initial evaluation is conducted by a therapist to assess the needs of a patient, establish a therapeutic relationship, and determine the patient's goals. The assessment includes a description and diagnosis of the pain problem, history of past and current treatments for pain, and an exploration of current activity levels and aggravating factors. Permission is requested to enable staff to communicate and collaborate with physicians and other current treatment providers.
Outpatient Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
The outpatient pain management program uses a cognitive approach designed to assist with management of chronic pain. This structured 10-week, 90-minute group will include some of the following topics: developing positive self-talk, expressive writing, relaxation training, visual imagery, time-based pacing, assertiveness training, problem-solving skills, and healthy self-care training.
Seeking Help/Making a Referral
Potential patients or treatment providers can call (740) 374-1422 or 1-800-523-3977 for more information or to schedule an appointment. If seeking inpatient detoxification services the patient's current prescribing physician would need to refer the patient for services.
Payment
We accept Medicare, Ohio Medicaid, most private insurance companies. Payment plans can be arranged. It is important to note that some payers have restrictions on some services. Please check to make sure we are in your insurance network and what services your benefit will cover.
